"The OFL Connection"

SOUNDEX CODE
To clear up the confusion, Soundex is just a code based on the SOUND of a surname, rather than the spelling. Using the Soundex system, Bower (B600 in Soundex code) will be filed with Bauer (also B600). See? It's helpful, not scary! For a more thorough description, examples, and a converter, visit ProGenealogists' Soundex Code page (by Ancestry.com, but FREE). If you want to convert a name yourself, check out the rules on the National Archives' Soundex System page.

FAMILYSEARCH.ORG
FamilySearch.org provides free access to genealogy records and resources. You don't need to sign up or purchase a membership to search this site.
