Libraries depend on donations from the community to help us thrive. We sincerely appreciate donations to the library; your donations are tax deductible. For all donations to the library, you can ask to speak with the Director of the library to make sure that your gift is used as you intend.
You can donate in many ways:
Materials – Donations of books and other materials are greatly appreciated. Items that are not added to the collection will go in to our book sale. Such a determination is solely up to the librarians of OFL. We request that large donations be made in the weeks leading up to the larger Friends of the Library book sale.
Financial - Many people choose to make financial donations each year. Financial donations can be given to the library for general use, or directed for specific purposes such as books, furniture, genealogy materials, etc.
Memorial / Bequests – Donations can be made in honor of someone important in your life, or left to the library in a will. Books purchased in memory of someone have special memorial plates inserted in the front that identify the person being honored or the occasion being remembered.
Time - Donations of your time are also highly valued by the library. Volunteers help us make sure all our books are in order, work at book sales, weed our garden, advocate for the library, and assist in many other ways.
In the past, donations have helped improve our local history and genealogy collections, added hundreds of books to our general collection, helped fund equipment and furniture purchases, provided for murals around the library, and helped establish our outdoor areas.
