Genetic Genealogy: Introduction to DNA
Tuesday, April 15th at 7:00 pm

Join us for our monthly Genealogy Group meeting and hear from special guest Dr. Blaine Bettinger. In addition to learning about Y-DNA and mtDNA, we’ll learn about the newest tool available to genealogists, autosomal DNA.  Genealogists can use these tools together with traditional research to explore their ancient ancestry, find genetic relatives, and break through brick walls. No registration is required.

Our Postal Heritage:
Collecting, Researching and Preserving It

Tuesday, February 18th at 7:00 pm

Our Regional Archivist, Dr. Preston Pierce, will help us explore the growth and development of the postal system in the Genesee-Lakes Country region. This illustrated talk examines the expansion of the postal service including changes resulting from the development of new technologies (especially cameras and post cards) and the expansion of the population. Common postal documents can reveal local history information that might be otherwise “hidden”, so family historians are encouraged to attend! No registration is required.

Join us for this library program on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 pm. Dennis P. Bielewicz will present his background story leading up to the publication of Heroes in the Attic. Special focus will include the finding of Civil War related documents that fostered the will to research the military and personal stories of Hiram Seymour Hall and Benjamin S. Coffin. These men, college students, organized their student colleagues to leave college before graduation to train as volunteer soldiers at the beginning of the Civil War. Bielewicz will then detail their training, service in over twenty battles, their discharge from the military and the course that their adult lives took. Registration is required and begins 10/26. Please call 617-6181 to register.
