THANK YOU!

Picture
A BIG thank you goes out to all the young adult volunteers who helped Mrs. Strang at the "Taste of Nations" program. They did an AMAZING job, and looked fantastic in their costumes. The library depends on these faithful volunteers all summer to help Mrs. Strang and Mrs. Voelkl staff their programs, and they are much appreciated !!!

Summer Reading Wrap-up

Picture
Congratulations to David Stewart, who won the grand prize of a suitcase stuffed with all kinds of goodies, at our Summer Reading closing event on Wednesday, August 10th!
Mrs. Strang is still totaling up all the entries, but she is up to 6,300 slips , with some more counting to do! Congratulations to all 289 children who participated in the summer reading program this year ... that is ALOT of reading done in Spencerport this summer.

If you attended the "Taste of the Nations" program and enjoyed the international recipes, here are the directions for a few of them, for you to try at home:

Cool Watermelon Slushies (Thailand) - Put 6 ice cubes in a blender or food processor. Mix the ice cubes until crushed. Add 2 cups seedless watermelon pieces and blend 1 minute. Add 1 Tbsp. sugar & blend for 10 seconds more.
Home-made Salsa (Mexico) - Combine one small can diced tomatoes, 1 small chopped onion, 1/2 tsp. chili powder, and a pinch each of sugar, salt and pepper. Combine, chill and eat!
Cherokee Huckleberry Bread (Native American) - Cream 1 egg, 1 stick butter & 1 cup sugar well. Add 2 cups self-rising flour, 1 cup milk and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Sprinkle a little flour over 2 cups of huckleberries (you can substitute blueberries!) and coat well, then fold into the batter by hand. Bake in a greased & floured loaf pan at 35o degrees for approx. 40 minutes.
